Chemistry Department

In your Element - Chemistry

The chemistry program is based on the principle of progression. With an introduction to basic concepts, leading to study of the different branches of chemistry and lab experience, students will have the competency to understand and analyze the most difficult concepts. The program prepares you for graduate work in chemistry, biochemistry, forensics, pharmacy and chemical engineering, or professional school of medicine and dentistry.

Conduct your research on the University’s new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer. Collaborate on a research project with a faculty mentor/adviser and present your findings at Adelphi’s Annual Research Conference. Or contribute to Synthesis, the Student Science Journal.

The Department of Chemistry offers the following programs:

» B.A. or B.S. in Chemistry

» B.S. in Biochemistry

» Minor in Chemistry

Students may consider joint degree programs in engineering or dentistry or the pre-health preparation program.

Chemistry majors can also enter the Scholar Teacher Education Program in the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education.
